Film coating is an important and sophisticated process step in the pharmaceutical industry. L.B. Bohle is the technological leader for all pharmaceutical film coating applications.

Film coating processes can be divided in the spraying, drying and mixing basic operations. Every individual step must be carefully optimized and in coordination with others.

Bohle coaters guarantee excellent product processing with exceptionally high profitability. The flat tablet bed in a long drum geometry, as well as continuous adjustment of the inclination angle ensure optimal movement of the cores. The integrated mixing spirals in the drum enable continuous product movement. There is no tablet twinning, therefore minor losses in solids and coatings.

Innovative concepts for processes as well as for cleaning improve the coater functionality and deliver outstanding results.

The type of air system reveals significant process-related advantages. Danger of spray drying of suspension no longer exists. This reduces spray losses and improves the structure of the coating. Tablets are handled more carefully thanks to the pan geometry and the mixing and conveyor elements. Through change of direction of pan rotation, tablets can be discharged completely and without containments.

Benefits of Bohle coating technology:

  • best coating uniformity
  • excellent mixing thanks to patented spirals
  • careful product movement due to low tablet bed thickness
  • simple discharge by changing the rotating direction of the coating pan
  • nozzles with AB-caps ensure long service life
  • minimal spray losses < 5 %
  • faster processing du to a high number of nozzles and an efficient air flow system
  • high batch size variability
  • same pan geometries for easy scale-up
  • rapid and simple cleaning

The Bohle Film Coater BFC is the high-end version of the Bohle Coater. In addition to the aforementioned benefits there are further process-technical features: Air-tight coater housing, automatic,  recipe-controlled nozzle adjustment...

The Bohle Film Coater BFC 5 is a stand-alone unit. The entire air technique as well as electrical and control technique is integrated in the system. Multipanel visualization with touch panel, operator unit is attached to Coater. An electrical connection and a compressed air connection are required for operation.

In 2011, L.B. Bohle has launched the first semi-continuous coater. The process was optimized by using modified drums, more nozzles and increased drying air to allow quick and high-quality reproduction of all coating applications using the Bohle KOCO®.
